Great Northern Asset Management, LLC was founded in 2006 and is an SEC registered investment advisory firm located in Vancouver, Washington.  We provide investment advice to individuals, families, non-profits and foundations.  Our objective is to be the “Financial Headquarters” for our clients by providing specific financial advice based on each clients investment goals, risk levels, financial plan and individual needs.

We are fiduciaries who are held to a legal standard which places our clients’ interests ahead of our own. We are not a sector or style specific manager; we are an asset allocator.  We seek the best-in-class managers for each asset class we invest.

We specialize in three core financial areas:

Team

Ms. Oglesby has been has been directly involved in the investment management business since 1982.  She joined Great Northern Asset Management in March of 2006 as Director of Investment Services working exclusively with high net-worth Families, Trust Accounts, Foundations and Institutional Clients providing asset allocation implementation, portfolio reviews and account rebalancing.  She oversees investment manager research and due diligence, investment operations, client reporting and is the Chief Compliance Officer.

Prior to joining the Great Northern team, Ms. Oglesby spent 3 years as the Director of Consulting Services with Windermere Investment Associates, a registered investment advisory firm consulting on over $4 billion. As a Senior Consultant, Tami conducted client meetings providing asset allocation studies, manager research interviews and analysis, tax-efficient strategies, client education and reviewing quarterly manager performance results.  Additional duties included co-managing three hedge fund of funds totaling over $50 million, along with managing the traditional and non-traditional investment research teams and the investment performance department.

Ms. Oglesby began her career at Capital Trust Company which later became CTC Consulting.  Being just the fifth employee of Capital Trust gave Ms. Oglesby the opportunity to gain experience in all areas of the Operations Department before moving on to the Trust Investment Department and eventually the investment consulting arm.  Tami spent 17 years at CTC which grew to over 80 employees providing advice on approximately $26 billion in client assets with an average client size of over $200 million.  Tami departed CTC as a Senior Vice President/Consultant and a member of the Senior Management Team that reported directly to the CEO. Her list of responsibilities and accomplishments while at CTC were:

  • Investment consulting services to high net-worth families, foundation, personal trusts and institutional clients. Provided asset allocation studies, investment manager research and performance measurement reporting.
  • Developed and managed the Performance Measurement Department (supervised staff of 3) responsible for producing comprehensive reports to senior consultants for advising clients on their marketable and non-traditional assets.
  • Prepared written quarterly market reviews, economic summaries and assisted in firm marketing material.
  • Co-Portfolio Manager for in-house Money Market Fund.
  • Headed the Security Trading Department for equities and all fixed income products.
  • Trust Operations Assistant Manager.
  • Began as Cash Manager and Government Securities Specialist. Handled all cash transactions, GIC contracts, administered retirement beneficiary promissory notes, traded money market funds, and settled treasury and government security transactions. Maintained and balanced custodial general ledger and bank operational accounts.

Ms. Oglesby passed the AIMR Investment Management Workshop for Senior Investment Professionals, Princeton University, 1997, is a former President and Board Member of the Security Traders Association of Portland.  She obtained her NASD Series 7 and 65 License.

Tami is a native Oregonian, has two grown sons and spends a great deal of her spare time on the tennis court where in 2014 she took 2nd place in the USTA National Championships.

Nicholas M. Lonstad is Principal and at Great Northern. Mr. Lonstad has been in the investment industry for over a decade, and he is practiced in both traditional (equity/fixed income) and alternative (hedge fund/private market) investments. His experience has spanned both discretionary and non-discretionary (consultative) capacities. His client relationship history has encompassed high-net-worth to ultra-high-net-worth families and individuals, foundations, and institutional fund-of-funds.

At Great Northern since 2013, his primary responsibilities include client service, portfolio analysis, asset allocation, investment manager and strategy research, retirement analysis, client portfolio reporting and performance measurement, as well as trading. He is also responsible for written market commentary and topical research briefs. Mr. Lonstad has built out and expanded the portfolio analytics for gauging and measuring portfolio risks, as well as building out and enhancing the firm s investment due diligence process.

Prior to joining Great Northern, Mr. Lonstad was an Associate Consultant and Senior Performance Analyst with the ultra- high-net-worth consultancy, CTC Consulting (now CTC MyCFO). CTC advised on approximately $26 billion in client assets across 100 client relationships, which included families, foundations and family offices. Average client portfolio size was approximately $200 Million. While at CTC, Mr. Lonstad worked with clients on investment policy creation, asset allocation, investment implementation planning and execution, risk management, mission related & ESG investing, portfolio analysis, investment manager selection and monitoring, as well as performance measurement and reporting. He spearheaded efforts to model and understand complex risks in portfolio construction, by creating the risk management program which was a basis for the firm s Investment Risk Committee. In addition, he worked in enhancing complex performance reporting systems, as well as creating new ways to visualize client portfolio histories.

Before launching his Investment career at CTC in 2007, Mr. Lonstad attended and worked at Washington State University. Employed as a Research Assistant, he worked with the Public Policy Department on research involving children with Autism and health care facilities. Outside his research position, he also tutored children with Autism utilizing concepts in art therapy for social skill-building. An environmental advocate, Mr. Lonstad was also the public speaker for the Social and Environmental Justice Group, where he brokered engagement between the environmental sciences and business schools.

He received his BA in Finance with Honors from Washington State University, where he was the 2007 recipient of the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Business – an acknowledgment of his academic record and cross-disciplinary involvement on campus and in the community.

Mr. Lonstad is proud to call the Pacific Northwest his home since 1993. His outside interests include distance running (where he has completed several marathon races), landscape photography (his work can be found at www.nmlphoto.com), and exploring the outdoors through hiking, bushwhacking, caving and canyoneering (rappelling waterfalls). Currently, through a non-profit organization, Mr. Lonstad has been exploring and documenting off-trail waterfalls in efforts to build out new trails in the Columbia River Gorge and greater area. Endlessly curious, his intellectual pursuits include evolutionary psychology, philosophy, futurism, physics, and historical economics.   If you’re a dog lover, you may spot the Lonstad Family at the dog park with their Rhodesian Ridgeback, Lilly.

Sheri Baglio joined the team at Great Northern Asset Management as Operations Manager in January 2021. Sheri is responsible for handling client requests, new account/transfer paperwork, assisting with investment research, marketing and overall office operations.

Sheri started her finance career at the age of 17 working in banking for 10 years. After that, she pursued her education to earn a Bachelor of Science degree at Portland State University in Finance. During college and for the next few years, she worked as a research analyst at a firm that valued privately held companies.

For the past 20 years, she has worked at investment firms as registered/licensed assistant. Her last 7 years was with Ameriprise as a Paraplanner. She worked with advisors to foster client retention and to help grow the business. She served in roles as client service manager handling all cash requests and client questions, preparing all client paperwork and processing trades. She also assisted with marketing and special client events.

We welcome Sheri’s excellent customer service skills and attention to detail.

Sheri is married to Allen and lives in Vancouver with their three dogs. For fun, they enjoy riding their jet skis and camping. Sheri’s favorite hobby is charity sewing where she can turn her hobby into helping others. She formed a small group that meets monthly to plan, prepare and make items for local organizations.
